The Opportunity:

The Human Resource Generalist/Payroll Coordinator is responsible for supporting the HR department with various operational and administrative HR tasks.  They will oversee the day-to-day HR operations of the regions they support, this will include payroll and benefit administration.  This position will be located in our Lethbridge office.  Some travel will be required.

Responsibilities include:

  • In collaboration with the Regional Managing Partner in their region, the HR Generalist is responsible for the recruitment process of all staff and lawyers. This includes sourcing, interviewing, and hiring new employees.
  • Responsible for addressing employee complaints and resolving issues.
  • With guidance, handles performance improvement plans, disciplinary actions, and termination-related matters.
  • Ensures HR policies and procedures comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Maintains accurate employee records for the regions they support.
  • Administers payroll for support staff (semi-monthly) and lawyers (monthly). This will include generating records of employment and T4 slips.
  • Administers the day-to-day functions of the group benefit plan (onboarding, offboarding and assisting with general inquires).
  • Administers the firm’s Service Award Program
  • Works in conjunction with the HR Generalists in other offices.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years’ proven experience in the HR profession.
  • Minimum 2 years’ proven experience as a Payroll Administrator with excellent knowledge of payroll principles and practices.
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Human Resource Management.
  • Recognized payroll certification is an asset.
  • Knowledge of income tax forms, ROE’s, T4’s, health benefit programs and vacation pay.
  • Knowledge and understanding of human resource policies, employment standards legislation, and other regularity requirements
  • Experience with Ceridian Powerpay is an asset
  • Strong integrity with ability to maintain confidentiality and manage highly sensitive information.
  • Excellent communication skills as it relates to human resources.
  • CPHR designation (or working towards) is an asset.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Compensation & Hours:

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.  Regular full-time position with working hours of 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM subject to change from time to time.  We provide a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical, dental, prescription drug, life insurance, critical illness, long term disability, vacation and sick time benefits.
