Originally from South Africa, Kobus holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Law) degree and a postgraduate law degree from the University of Stellenbosch. He began his legal career with a law firm in Cape Town before joining one of South Africa's national banking groups, where he served as in-house legal counsel and later as Head of Compliance and Risk Management for the bank's Business Division. In this leadership role, he developed extensive expertise in regulatory compliance, corporate governance, risk management, and strategic legal advisory services within a complex financial environment.
After immigrating to Canada with his family, Kobus joined a law firm in Cranbrook in 2016. His practice focuses on real estate, wills and estates, and business law. He is committed to delivering practical, client-focused legal advice, helping individuals, families, and businesses navigate important legal decisions with confidence.
Outside of work, Kobus enjoys spending time with his family and exploring Canada's natural beauty through travel, hiking, and days at the lake. A proud South African, he enjoys hosting traditional South African barbecues, known as braais, whenever possible. An avid sports fan, he remains a passionate supporter of South Africa's national rugby team, the Springboks, as well as Canada's national hockey teams.
