John was born & raised in Brooks, Alberta and attended the University of Lethbridge before embarking on an LL.B. from the University of Calgary, which he completed in 1995. After Law School, John articled at Stringam and eventually worked his way up to the position of Managing Partner, which he has held since 2008 to 2022. He was Chairman of the Stringam LLP Board for 2 years: 2023 and 2024. In addition, he was awarded a King’s Counsel designation in March of 2020, and in that same year John was appointed by the Premier to the Provincial Court Nominating Committee (now the Alberta Judicial Nominating Committee).
John has built a practice focused on High Conflict Litigation including Estate Litigation, Family Law disputes, and Corporate Shareholder disputes as well as Construction Law disputes. John also has an interest and acts as defence and plaintiff’s counsel on professional negligence matters. He has successfully appeared at all levels of Court in Alberta, the Court of King’s Bench in Saskatchewan, the Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Federal Court of Canada . John works out of Stringam’s Lethbridge office but travels to service client’s litigation needs throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan & the Northwest Territories, both in person and virtually. He has been admitted to the bar and is a member of The Law Society of Alberta, The Law Society of Saskatchewan and The Law Society of the Northwest Territories.
Outside the office, John enjoys spending time with his wife and family, volunteering for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, competitive cycling, CrossFit, and hunting upland game birds with his amazing (Braque Francias) hunting dog, Ozzy.
