Joe was born and raised in Medicine Hat. He earned his Bachelor of Civil Engineering (with distinction) from the University of Calgary in 2012, and earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Calgary in 2016. Joe was admitted as a member of the Law Society of Alberta in September 2017.
Joe works in the Medicine Hat and Bow Island offices, but has clients all over Southern Alberta. Joe is also available to travel and assist our Southwest Saskatchewan neighbors with their corporate, real estate and agri-business legal needs.
Prior to law school, Joe was employed as an Engineer in Training [EIT] with several local engineering firms. During his time as an EIT, he was involved in project management and design, as well as in development consultations with stakeholders and the community.
Joe is involved with his family’s property development and management business. His roles within the company have included assisting with the maintenance and rental aspects of the business, as well as being a project coordinator/planner for the company’s most recent residential and commercial development projects.
Joe has developed a practice with an emphasis on Real Estate, Wills, Estate Planning/Administration, Corporate/Commercial/Business Law, Financing and Agri-Business.
Joe also practices in Civil Litigation, Landlord-Tenant Law, Municipal Law and Collections.
Joe works with businesses from the incorporation stage and assists them through all stages of growth. He does this by working with his clients and their business advisors including their accountants, bankers and investment advisors to put together the structures, agreements and the financing required to ensure the businesses he represents succeed.
Real Estate – Residential, Commercial and Farm:
Joe has a passion for real estate and enjoys working collaboratively with realtors, banks and mortgage brokers to ensure that every transaction he is involved in is completed smoothly and efficiently. Joe’s goal is to make sure that real estate transactions are enjoyable, hassle free and understood by his clients.
Estate Planning and Estate Administration:
Joe’s estate practice includes the preparation of wills, trusts, enduring powers of attorney, personal directives as well as assisting with the administration of estates. Joe’s goal is to ensure that his clients have proper plans in place that not only provide peace of mind, but minimize conflicts, costs and taxes.
Outside the Office:
When not practicing law, Joe enjoys hunting, fishing, trapshooting and spending time outdoors.
Joe believes in the value of education and is a part-time instructor at the Medicine Hat College for Business Law. Joe can also be found speaking at seminars relating to his practice areas.
Joe has a strong interest in community involvement and has volunteered with many community-based organizations. Joe is currently a director for the Canadian Home Builders Association of Medicine Hat and is actively involved with the Medicine Hat Fish and Game Association.
